Signing session Koen Hauser
8 Nov 2014, 13:00 - 17:00
On Saturday 8 november, the ‘Fotograaf des Vaderlands 2014’ (Honorary photographer of the Netherlands) Koen Hauser (1972) will be signing the last copies of his book ‘De Luister van het Land’ at the Babooka Bookstore. Hauser currently lives and works in Leiden as a photographer and visual artist.
After graduating as a major in Social Psychology, he went on to study photography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where he currently teaches. Hauser studied psychology because of his fascination with the human mind and how it perceives the world around it. The subject on which he graduated is stereotyping. The inquisitive attitude that he developed during his study is still essential to his work as a photographer. In his work he often references to iconic imagery in historical illustrations and photo’s He uses these images regularly in his own work. This iconic imagery, combined with his love for the mysterious and alienating, taken together with his feeling for form summarizes the core of his work. His intangible oeuvre covers applied photography, fashion and art. His work contains purely esthetical and conceptual works and combines both commercial and autonomous projects.
Next to expositions, Hauser also works for magazines such as LINDA, Volkskrant, Kunstbeeld, l’Officiel Blend and FOAM and his work is also published in non-Dutch fashion and art magazines. The public has seen his work often through photo’s of famous Dutch people, like Caro Emerald and Loes Luca. He also works for brands such as Bijenkorf and Vlisco.
The Dutch Foundation Fotoweek has proclaimed Koen Hauser as National Photographer of the Netherlands 2014, a title that serves as a promotion of Dutch photography. As National Photographer, Hauser gave Fotoweek 2014 and photography as an occupation a human face. For this special occasion, he made a series in the theme of ‘Kijk! Mijn geluk’ (‘Look! My happiness’).
